ACLU Demands That Schools Stop Unconstitutional Web Filtering Of LGBT Content

Greenville County Schools have agreed to restore students’ access to GSA Network, GLSEN, It Gets Better, and similar websites that provide support and resources for LGBT students.  The action followed the filing of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with Greenville County Schools on March 28, 2011 about the district's use of internet filtering software in high schools to block websites that fall into the "LGBT," "Gay or Lesbian," "Bisexual Interest," "Alternative Lifestyles" or "Social Issues" categories.

Schools must stop unconstitutional web filtering of LGBT content. Students are responding to the ACLU's "Don't Filter Me" initiative by asserting their rights and letting schools know that censorship is unacceptable.
